Welcome to #sibcity

We know how to make you look good on instagram!

The city of Järvenpää might not be globally known for it’s sights but we do have some pretty instagrammable selfie spots! For a good picture to post on your social media platforms, consider visiting these places, for example:

Sibbe is here waiting to hang out with you. Take a #sibbeselfie and become a tiny but valuable part of our cultural history!

The Statue of Jean Sibelius. Our national composer whose best known pieces are Finlandia, Karelia Suite and Valse Triste along with seven internationally performed symphonies. Strike a pose with the stiff “Janne” in the background and take a #sibbeselfie. You can find it in the garden of the Library and Järvenpää Art Museum.

It’s not a giant McDonald’s sign even though for some people it looks very much like it. It’s the Finland’s biggest public sculpture, the yellow Kolmisointu monument (= The Triad) in Rantapuisto, the waterfront park of Järvenpää. The Rantapuisto area is perfect for summer hangouts, picnics and walks. Use #kolmisointu and #rantapuisto when posting your photos online. And if the park is not your cup of tea, McDonald’s is just 2 kilometres away!

Architecturally speaking, The church of Järvenpää is not everyones cup of tea. Actually, our church has been voted the ugliest one in the whole of Finland (a title which we are proud of)! This 1960’s brutalist masterpiece is made from concrete, metal and glass. What else can you expect from a country that has over 50 metal bands per 100 000 inhabitants? If you’re looking for a plain background for your photos with an urban feel, this was a sanctuary made for (loving) you.
